Dr. David Bistor is a new 5-year member of our group this year despite several years of nominations, he finally accepted! David's professional career has spanned from 1983 until the present where he is currently employed as the Chief Technology Officer of ISERE, LLC.  

David has received many honors, and additional training, and has several methods that make him and his teams highly productive and successful. David also believes in serving as a volunteer and a respectful example in his local community, so he has done many years of volunteer service, as a first responder, EMT, Level 1 EMT, Paramedic, and Professional Rescuer instructor. David was also a Boy Scout leader from 1987 - 1997. David is an Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor Member. 

Professionally, David has attended numerous seminars related to team building and effective successful management approaches. David is also Agile Process and 6-Sigma trained and certified. A notable honor was bestowed upon him while working for Fujitsu Communications, Inc. David and his team received the President's Award for their innovative work on a broadband program. David received the highest monetary amount granted to a small select group of employees, in 1999 awarded personally by A. Tokimasa, CEO and President of FNC.

He has authored dozens of application notes for companies, and training materials. He led his teams to win some of the largest contract awards in history!  Thanks to his unique and analytical management style, his teams consistently delivered contracts on time, ahead of time, under budget, and with zero defects. None of the satellite designs they have placed into orbit have ever had a single onboard failure! David's teams know that the equipment they develop will often be in unserviceable locations, so quality is key. He invented the concept of Agile before it had a formal name. He established metrics to evaluate all phases of R&D and they are closely monitored. 

His Dad taught him a very valuable lesson as he did his brothers when they were young. David says, “My dad was the kindest, best father anyone could dream of having, and he had the patience of a saint! " He taught us that everyone you meet, you should address them with respect, and as you speak with them, learn from them. Dad said, "Everyone has wisdom, talent, and valuable skill sets. Furthermore, individuals possess both common, yet also unique life experiences to share with you. Then someday, when you encounter those conditions, you will have the knowledge, experience, and/or other tools to adapt!" My dad was very clear, that every human soul has value. Learn and grow from them, and facilitate allowing them to learn and grow from your knowledge and experience! He learned much of my fundamental leadership skills in Boy Scouting, not within a university setting.

David sets every employee up for success. He is the only executive that spends time side by side with engineers in the lab, helping, teaching, and ensuring that he provides them with the best tools to conduct their jobs. He does not believe in annual reviews. Instead, every employee throughout his management team has a small set (5 on average) of typically weighted (totaling 100%) goals and objectives. Their supervisor's priority is to strive to ensure that every employee in their group receives an 85 - 90 percent score minimum! One small, weighted objective of 5 to 10 percent is always a learning, or process improvement goal for the team and it keeps everyone pushing the envelope, learning new skills, and ultimately being set up for success. 

Every 90 days, the employee grades themselves on their performance and then sits down with their supervisor to agree upon a fair score. That score gets calculated as a factor of quarterly earnings and ultimately becomes a quarterly bonus! 

Incented, happy employees, given the best tools, mentorship, support, and open-door access to all levels of management is a key to my recipe for success and team building. Furthermore, extensive productivity and quality metrics help keep the team productivity and quality on track. Praising innovation and employee perseverance, demonstrating the utmost respect toward everyone, and ultimately setting everyone up for success is critical, and sometimes challenging, but always has paid dividends in his experience! If an employee is unhappy, he wants to know about it immediately, resolve the matter to their satisfaction and return the person's morale and ambition to normal. In instances where they are very unhappy in their position, then he has often gone out of his way to create a new one!

 David’s patents and application notes were often (and still are) not declassified and are the property of the U.S. Secretary of Defense. In his younger years had he known about intellectual property, he would have made a fortune on the Pharmacia RAST test spectrophotometer that he developed as a contract job in his basement for 2 years. The complex mathematics and cubic spline curve fitting algorithms solved years of Ph.D. efforts in Sweden and it all just came naturally to him.

Lastly, David has written and presented numerous papers in his career. Unfortunately, due to the nature of his classified top-secret clearance work, he is unable to share them. However, over the years he has written several winning contract proposals, application notes, and a couple of trade journal articles.
